demon empire is a caste based society. The stronger blood-lines have more influence then the weaker ones. Out of the sentient demons the ranks are peasent, warrior, knight, lord, emporer. There are other classes, but they exist outside the rank. I haven't mentioned much about them because the ranking scale I just gave isn't final.

I have stated he is a knight because I have settled on that. Emperor is top, followed by the seven demon lords the each rule their own chunk of the Earth. Under them are their elite soldiers, the knights. Although not all of the knight caste work for the lords, it is still demons from this group that the lords enlist their top agents. Incidently knights are often where lords select their mates since union of a knight and a lord is more likely to yeild a new lord.

If a lord does not sire a child at the power level befitting that rank before his or her death, then the family would forever lose their influence and the empire would forever have one less lord. Thus procreation is a very real concern for a demon lord.
